The LVPs need a dual-lock way of installation. These vinyl planks come with a pre-attached pad and have bevel edges. COREtec manufactures both SmartCore Ultra and SmartCore Pro.
Its design layer is a little more detailed, and you’re not paying more money for an SPC core that apparently adds very little benefit. SmartCore Ultra features a WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) core. WPC incorporates an ultra-fine sawdust called wood flour into its construction. This gives the floor some extra “bounce” and makes it feel a bit more like authentic hardwood species.

As for these two names, both have the specs that many love about LVPs. Smartcore and LifeProof are easy to clean and eco-friendly. Remember, it will help if you look at the cost and body of the LVP before buying.
I loved the colors Coastal Oak, Crystal Oak, and Quiet Oak online . Full disclosure, I have worked with Floor and Decor in the past on our master bathroom. They provided me with the tile, and we had a great experience. So when a friend mentioned that they loved their NuCore vinyl plank flooring, I added it to the list.

And here’s where we talk about the bad stuff. SmartCore doesn’t do much to address the common disadvantages of vinyl plank flooring—which means the product doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. And because of a couple of big design flaws, it can actually add to them. Reducing VOCs is a priority in the industry and it shows in newer products like low-VOC carpet and non-toxic laminate flooring.
I also thought the planks felt very flimsy, much like the Mohawk planks. I had the same concerns about our concrete subfloor and comfort. Luckily Tybee Island was in the store and the package was already open, so I took them out to investigate. The color and pattern were stunning—exactly what I was looking for. I consideredCottage OakandHuntington Oak, ultimately favoring Cottage Oak because it had a bit more gray in it. Your call for what you’re looking for, but both are great.
CoreLuxe vs. Lifeproof vs. SMARTCORE
The LVPs have a floating and interlocking make. You can install them without removing the sub-floors. You have an idea of who makes the Smartcore and LifeProof LVP. Let’s now look at the differences between the specs of the two LVP names. It’s what will help you make the best choice between the two floors. Color—the perfect gray-brown to tie in our existing coffee-colored flooring without looking like we were trying to match. Not too much color variation , and not too beach-y looking. You can get the Smartcore LVPs only at Lowe’s store. As for the LifeProof, you can only buy them at Home Depot. So, in terms of getting the floors, this is quite a setback. Both Smartcore and LifeProof are very easy to install.
One drawback of these floors is that they have no preattached padding, which you can buy separately if you want. You also have to buy a moisture barrier, which is required. I consideredRiverwalk Oak, which was really lovely. That could be problematic if you don’t have anywhere to store all the flooring.
Home Depot also markets the attached underlayment as able to minimize sounds and enhance warmth. They also say that the planks have a treatment that inhibits the growth of mold and mildew on the attached underlayment and top surface layer. The Mohawk planks have a low gloss surface finish, which I like.
They were also all beautiful in the stores, and this line has a much wider selection of colors. But like some of the others, I thought they were too flimsy for my needs. We have a kid and pets, and this space leads to the backyard, where we spend a lot of time. Though, if you want LVPs that can last for long in your house and money isn’t a problem, go for Smartcore. Expect the Smartcore to range from 2 to 3.80 dollars per square foot. As for the LifeProof LVPs, the costs range from $2.99 to $4.39 per square foot.
